Bioterrorism In Agriculture |
||||||||||
Bioterrorism in agriculture in the United States is a great threat. If an enemy launches a chemical attack against the United States our food supply could be greatly compromised. Food plants and bakeries might not be aware of receiving contaminated ingredients and could potentially pass those goods onto consumers. Batches could be shipped all of the country before suppliers new they were distributing infected materials. Imagine if there was a Bioterrorism Food Incident. It would be days before an infected batch could be recalled. In order to avoid a agricultural bioterrorism disaster the Food and Drug Administration initiated the Agricultural Bioterrorism Protection Act in 2002. In order to give food plants time to comply the government has been slow to act with enforcing regulations until recently. The government is beginning to crack down on food plants who do not keep complete batch records for all ingredients they receive and materials they produce. For most food plants recording and keeping detailed lot number histories is a daunting tasks involving mountains of paperwork, that is why BIT added a lot tracking module to our existing inventory control system, PRIMS. PRIMS is a complete solution for handling recipes, scaling, allergen cleaning, and lot number tracking. Any plant that deals with agricultural or food materials can benefit from lot number tracking. PRIMS is specialized for complete production line use but an inexpensive simple lot tracking system is available.
