I would like to talk to you about a major issue that has been plaguing the Food and Baking industry for the last several years. We are all in a world where we are asked to produce more with less manpower. In my travels to different plants and also in discussions with members at the different trade conferences, I have heard the following complaints:

  • “Our maintenance staff has been cut.”
  • “The maintenance budget has been cut”
  • “We have lost maintenance mechanics and can’t find qualified replacements”
  • “The plant has grown over 50% but haven’t been given any additional maintenance men”
  • “What do I do? They’re telling me to get blood from a stone!”

These are serious problems, which I will address in the following pages.
